Tasmania Skilled Migration (Overseas Applicants) — 2025-26 Update
- Two key pathways are available for offshore applicants:
- Health/Education Job Offer (Subclass 190)
- Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles (OSOP) – Invitation-Only (Subclass 491)
- If applicants do not meet the required points for the Subclass 190 Skilled Migration Points Test, or if their occupation is only eligible for Subclass 491, they may instead be nominated for the 491 visa.
Subclass 190 – Health / Education Sector Job Offer Pathway
Eligibility & Key Requirements:
- Valid skills assessment in a health, allied health or education-related occupation (listed under approved ANZSCO groups).
- A formal job offer from a Tasmanian employer closely related to your assessed occupation.
- Employer must be well-established (operating for at least 12 months) and able to sustain the position.
- Employment must offer market-rate pay and conditions.
- You (and dependents) must not have lived in another Australian state or territory within the past 12 months.
- ROIs under this pathway receive a Gold Pass, allowing immediate nomination application.
Documents include: passport, SkillSelect EOI, skills assessment, English test, job offer letter, CV/resume, and recruitment evidence (e.g. job ads, interview records).
Subclass 491 – OSOP (Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles) Invitation-Only Pathway
Overview:
- This pathway is invitation-only — Migration Tasmania contacts suitable candidates via SkillSelect based on occupation demand.
- You (and dependents) must not have lived in another Australian state or territory in the last 12 months.
If invited, you must provide:
- Evidence of job market research in Tasmania (emails or LinkedIn correspondence with employers/recruiters).
- Details of at least two recent Tasmanian job vacancies (within 6 months) and a statement showing how your experience fits those roles.
- Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself (and dependents) for at least 6 months.
- Standard supporting documents: passport, EOI, skills assessment, English test, and invitation letter.
💡 Key Takeaways
- The 190 pathway is more direct if you can secure a Tasmanian job offer in a listed health or education occupation.
- The 491 OSOP pathway targets specific high-demand occupations, but applications are invitation-only.
- Tasmania enforces a strict rule: applicants must not have resided in another Australian state within the past 12 months.
- Applicants who fall short on 190 points or whose occupations are 491-only may still receive a 491 nomination.
- Always check the official guidance and FAQs on the Migration Tasmania site before applying.
